I just found out it's a yellow christmas heliconia, yes at first I thought it was a bird of paradise too, Shapla.

Thanks Bernieh, yes I love this yellow too.

Definitely a heliconia - shaped like lobster's claws (which is the common name for them) and those white bits hanging out of the yellow bracts are the flowers.

That's interesting Bernieh, thanks for sharing. The more common ones here are the orange coloured heliconias.

Panther:

Such a beautiful Heliconia latispatha 'Yellow Christmas!' I wish mine would bloom! I have Heliconia latispatha 'Red Christmas' also...and they are in pots and have never bloomed.

Thanks Delonix, I had tried potting the Red Christmas Heliconia at the same time as this yellow one but it died, it's a beautiful flower too! I hope yours get to bloom soon.....

Panther:

I'll have to put them in the ground...then they'll bloom. In a pot, they don't get enough nutrients. Heliconia species are extremely heavy feeders.
