Hi Nancy, I beleive that these are Sumac trees. ( Staghorn ) We have tons of them here in New England. They are often seen in clusters like this.

Love the fall color ! Yes we have them too here in North Carolina. I bought a new cultivar of one of these last year that has amazing color all season long. Never thought I'd buy a sumac, with so many around in the wild, but this sport of the regular type is stunning.The cultivar is named 'tiger eyes'. Paul James of 'Gardening by the Yard', loves sumac and has several types and was showing this one off on one of his TV programs ,and I knew right then and there, that I would have one..!..lol.
