It is lovely. Unfortunately over here it is considered a noxious weed and Agriculture Canada is trying to take measures to eradicate it. Apparently it takes over our native species and ends up clogging waterways, marshy areas and ditches.

I guess it happens the world over Jacque. It is so sad but I guess nature knows best when it has certain plants in certain parts of the world.....Mother Nature wants them to stay there.

Japenese notweed is the big problem plant over here and it is vertually impossible to eradicate it as it burrows deep into the grownd and through walls ect. Amazingly I once saw a picture of it growing up a chimney and have seen it apearing through cracks in tarmac. Alan tichmarsh of gardeners world did a documentary about it and showed on timelapse photography how it grows so quickly, over a course of a month it literally grew from nothing to about six foot high and completely covered a large area of wastland.
