Hi there - the tall plants in the photo are echiums. They're a type of herb I believe. I'd never seem them until I moved to Cornwall. My local garden centre sells them (buy 1 get 1 free!!) so I'm very tempted but they grow to about 10' tall. I think they like sheltered positions although I've seen them all over the place in Cornwall - maybe they like the mild Cornish climate? As far as I can see on the internet, they originate from the Canary Islands.
