Are these ferns which die down in the winter ?

The fern at the back is Dryopteris affinis and in the front Asplenium scolopendrium. They are evergreen but i remove the old fronds in march so that i get a nice fresh looking fern later in spring as you see in the pic. Thanks for all the comments.
