It was bought from Chapples Nursery in the New Forest. Over the years the name tag has probably rotted,Does anyone know the name?

Not sure will look tomorrow, this goes back to the Seventys I associate the downy appearance with Yakushimanum Hybrids and dont think I started collecting them until later.

Aye know the one s Bjs thought Yaks tend to be small ..variety I m thinking of more of a tree like rhodo hence the arboreum but as I say could well be off beam as so many to choose from ..

It is about 7ft high but then again it must be 35 years old.For years i new the names without even looking at the label but thoes days are nearly gone. Still it bugs me.

Oh know that feeling well even plants I ve known for years I have trouble recalling lol the other day could not remember Crocosmia and couldnt remember what they used to call it either !

Certainly a beauty love rhododendrons but so many cultivars ..wonder do the leaves have a brown downy appearance underneath?
Im thinking along the lines of R.arboreum but could be one of many , sorry thats not much help.
