I'm afraid not Avis, I am only a novice. The only tip I can think of and seems to work for me is something that I have read and followed and that is; plant any new Clematis about twice the depth that they come in the pots when you buy them. Apparently this helps to reduce the incidence of Clematis wilt as roots can form from the buried stems.
