thankyou, do any of you think it looks a biit untidy? i didnt realise i had to cut it back last year and this year its all flowered amazing but seems to be top heavy and hasnt really weaved in with my arch,assumingly because i havent helped it to

If it IS a Nelly Moser, books suggest 'light prune only' (I have Marigold Badcocks Clematis book), so to just trim it to keep a shape that pleases you.
I don't think it looks untidy, unless you were expecting a very formal trained look i'd leave it pretty much as is.
You could prune half of the plant, this way you achieve flowers higher up on the unpruned parts and flowers lower down on the pruned parts !
(Prune those bits after it's flowered)

I'm NO expert though, just a mad keen Clematis grower :)
