I dont think the Crocus do well. Each year at the Bot garden there is one plant, usually with more blooms and a different color in a different spot. They must just like to have at least one. :-)

Short spring I think Nelke. All the bulbs come up in a rush. I know ranunculus are a favorite of shrew. Bianca holds them at bay best she can. :-) I'm always trying things. Pasque flower is wild here.

I thought crocus since its just maybe two inches tall. It was the only one. Not to common to see tulip or crocus around here.

If you are able to retun to where it is growing, and can find it !see if it has a flower stem,if it has then its a bulb and probably Tulip,Crocus are corms and have no solid stem it withers with the flower leaving only the seed pod at ground level if it is fertile.
I have had a look in a bulb book and the picture fits very well with Tulipa Biflora which grows wild at around 2500mtrs in Central Asia and NW China.

Ah, thank you Brian. That climate tulip would do well here I'd think. Mongolia has fierce cold winters. I'll get back over, I know the garden, right where it is. I must check our peonies too, they have almost 300 at the Botanical garden. I don't want to miss blooming season. :-)

I visited today and the whole plant was removed. Not even a clump remaining. :-)

it´s beautiful. I don´t understand the lack of bulbs. Is it of the cold? Or is it just the shortness of spring, so that the summer-bulbs come? You once showed wild lilies.
