Thankyou BB/Jane... and the flowers on this hosta are lovely too! I'm looking for the late blooming hosta whose flowers are scented! I'm working on collections of hosta and miniature roses...

Lori:
Terrific looking plant! Are they evergreen plants there?

This is my favourite hosta...they are perennial but not evergreen... they die down to the root. their blossoms are beautiful and on the late flowering hosta they are lily scented! My other fav is a small blue variety...called Blue Toy or Blue Boy...can't remember for sure...will have to check.

Lori:
I have always like Hosta species... they look so fresh and clean...and here they are evergreen. They must be grown in shade in the coolest part of the garden to look good.

Thanks Grammazoo... looks like your garden is going well...lucky you with the sun room. How are the Dragon cacti coming?

Yes D1, most of the hosta that I have need shade...have found that the var. with yellow edging will be happy with more sun though...although our full sun doesn't have the strength of your full sun.

Lori:
The last week we have only been seeing the sun every other day. We are in a very strange weather pattern where the jet stream is bring us a lot of clouds. It extremely rare for the northern jet stream to be this far south at this time of the year...even during winter in isn't frequently this far south. Our weather has been much cooler than normal and I'm not complaining...given our drought. This also means no use of the air conditioner.

Wow! No aircon! I don't think I could weather extreme heat...I'm just an old northern popsicle! lol.... We have had a lot of cold weather this spring due, no doubt, to the more southerly passage of the jet stream.... glad you're getting a break on the temps...but are you getting any precip with it?
13 Jun, 2009
Lori:
No precip. The weather people have been saying were going to have some showers...nothing yet. In fact, today they said we were suppose to have showers and it's sunny. Go figure!
I have a feeling when it start to get hot...it will just be horribly hot and last a long time. I can always escape to Downtown San Diego where it's always 15 - 20 degrees cooler than where I live.

Love hostas....can't kill em....Just split them and away they go. Not fussy about soil and don't like full sun. All plants should be this easy.

We've had a mixed day today...some showers and some sun...the garden is loving it.... I hope you have some rain soon, D1! One raindance coming your way!
Thanks Regina...you are so right...they are quite easy...and their blossoms are subtle colours but so beautiful and graceful... I know some fanciers don't want the blossom...but I think they're great! Patriot is my very fav. love the crisp white and the bright green... Yes easy...Isn't it wonderful!!??

Lori:
Do you typically receive rain showers in the summer?
I think your raindance is working...it's raining in Los Angeles now and the showers are moving south here to San Diego. This is such rare weatherfor this time of the year, it's unbelievable. However, we're not complaining because we can use every drop of rain we receive.

Hurrah! welll I won't double my efforts because I know that too much rain on parched soil is a disaster in the making...so lets have some nice soaking cloud bursts...will this mean that the desert will bloom? Yes we get precip all year round...in fact summer is thunderstorm season...they come in on the jet stream from the midwest and can be quite severe...but there's always rain with our electrical storms....the western part of the province has had tornadoes too...
