Pyracantha flowers

Take such things for granted until a close up like this shows how pretty they are.

I know what you mean. The flowers are only the start though. As you of all people will know, it's the berries that the birds love.

Aye Toto so tend to forget that flowers are pretty as well. In harsh winters fieldfares and redwings strip these berries within hours .

We very rarely get the Fieldfares but do get the Redwings Bonkers. It's the Blackbirds that get most of the berries here.

Funnily enough, it's the one right outside the back door that gets stripped first. The other one is across the garden away from the house, you'd think they'd prefer that one!

Often seen together Toto esp during very harsh winters used to live in a house with pyracantha hedge fieldfares and redwings arrived en masse and stripped it in a couple of days.

See that there is a variety with variegated leaves but not sure of berry colour.

Years ago during harsh winters we nearly always saw both Fieldfares and Redwings but this seems to have changed as only the Redwings turn up now.
As for the Pyrocantha, there is one called Sparkler which has variegated leaves and I tried to grow it a few years ago but it died.
