Many of the orange and yellow varieties will fade to a peach-pink color.

Thanks! :>))
Practically everyone has a Bougainvillea in their yard. It's so widely grown here because it's very drought tolerant.

Makes a reliable plant then so it explains why its so popular.

Bougainvillea grows pretty much all throughout California except for the foothills of the Sierra and the Sierra Mountains. Bougainvillea loves extreme heat, it thrives in the low, subtropical deserts of California and Arizona. Many varieties can be purchased at any nursery or big box store.

Is that because of climate or type of soil its not grown in thefoot hills and mountains. Very popular then to be sold so wide spread.

The Sierra Foothills and Mountains get way too cold for Bougainvillea. It snow to very high depths there. Bougainvillea can die back at 28 degrees, higher temps can kill the leaves, though. It comes back very fast from frost damage, even though we don't get frost here in San Diego I've seen them get damaged in parts of the San Francisco Bay Area.

I had nt though about the snow and cold by the mountains so that makes sense. It is good they can recover from a bit of frost though. Your lucky not to have frosts good job you don live here you would hybernate lol.
1 Aug, 2017
Yes, I would be hibernating. I'm so used to San Diego's spring-like weather in winter and very sunny days. :>))
3 Aug, 2017
lol your winter sounds nice.
3 Aug, 2017
Yes, it's typically pretty nice and sunny and warm. It does cool down at night and in the mornings.
5 Aug, 2017
Thats far better weather then at least it makes it easier to sleep and feel refreshed in the morning
5 Aug, 2017
Yes, winter is generally very comfortable. :>))

Strange how seeds there can germinate with out a cold spell unlike ours here. Your lucky I dread what kind of winter we will get this year.
6 Aug, 2017
The trees here are subtropical and tropical in origin. They actually don't need nor want a cold spell. lol! :>))
8 Aug, 2017
Yes I thought that as they grow and you plant seed and grow and you don't have cold weather.
8 Aug, 2017
Yes, so many seeds can be planted any time of the year. Some will only grow during the longer days, though.
I was so surprised several years back when this church planted sunflowers in December. I though they wouldn't grow well. They actually grew better in winter than the ones I planted in summer. LOL! :>))

More light most likely in the longer days.

9 Aug, 2017
I know, what really got me was the ones growing by the chruch was better growing in winter than mine growing in summer. lol!
9 Aug, 2017
You 'll have to try their method grow in winter if you can't beat them join them lol
9 Aug, 2017
Yes, they just planted the sunflowers in November. I haven't grown sunflowers in years, though. They take up too much room. My neighbor just took her sunflowers out a couple months ago. I think she start them in early February. The feral parrots love the sunflower seeds. :>))
11 Aug, 2017
Yes our wild birds love them here to. Shame they take to much room thats why I dont grow them.
11 Aug, 2017
Yes, they can grow really big. I have too many plants, already...I don't need any more. LOL! :>))
13 Aug, 2017
