Spritz....If I got seeds could they be planted in containers and overwinter outside? I'd love to grow them and then transfer to the ground once the borders are dug out and prepared. I don't have a greenhouse unfortunately.

No - but you could plant them outside directly into the soil in about April. Or - plant some in pots in Feb/March indoors and harden them off ready to plant out.

Thanks for your helpful information, Spritz....the ones you planted yesterday...are they in a greenhouse then?? You've planted yours earlier than you recommend to me so curious...ta.

Yes, I plant mine in newspaper pots in the greenhouse now, then plant the whole things out without disturbing the roots in April. I wrote a blog about it...I'll find it so you can read it.
It's in October 2008 on my blog list on my page. Hope you find it interesting!

The blog on your newspaper pots was very interesting...do you use the newspaper pots for other plants as well? They must get a head start with this method....sounds a very good idea. Ta Spritz.

Glad you found it interesting. No, only sweet peas, as they like a deep root run and don't like their roots being disturbed. Yes, I normally get the first blooms in May. :-))))
