theycost a fortune -- small trees can cost as much
as $1,000.00!

Yes they do Delonix - I've seen them down south but I must admit I've only seen one up here (although of course I can only speak about places I actually been to and seen). We have a Palmetum here in my city - a large area of parkland that grows many many different types of palms and other tropical plants and I have seen one there.

I'm surprised there isn't more planted where you live...since, they are native to New Guinea...which is just north of you...well, maybe not just north of you but closer than California. : > )
