Euphorbia pulcherrima - Poinsettia (Euphorbia pulcherrima (Poinsettia))

It's winter here in Oz - so the poinsettias are now beginning to show their bracts and flowers.

Stunning, always associate them with Christmas as I use them to decorate the conservatory!

Pansypotter - over here we regard them as winter colour. They first bloom in winter - June to August - and then go on blooming into spring. They're not blooming at Christmas time here.

Not sure where you'd get one there, Shazzza. They're more likely to be sold around Christmas time in your part of the world.

I missed this first time around Bernieh. That is a good clear picture showing the tiny flowers very well. Tugbrethil posted a blog yesterday wondering what experiences of the longlevity of the different coloured bracts was for Goyers. Is this a house plant or does it grow outdoors for you?

Scotsgran, I grow my Euphorbia pulcherrimas outdoors. This particular one blooms and show bracts for a couple of months from mid to end of winter through to spring. This is a dwarf variety and it's a fantastic hardy plant for the dry tropics.

Thank you for your reply. It is interesting to know what grows where in the world. My latest buys are still in a piece thank goodness. The bracts on our house plants tend to last a lot longer than the leaves. The flowers seem to not come to much and are not noticed when they stop blooming because they are so insignificant.

See who else is growing Euphorbia pulcherrima (Poinsettia).

See who else has plants in genus Euphorbia.
