What's that ?

Phormium flower pods they will open soon into little yellow flowers .
Will take photo when they do .They stand about 8" tall

How old is it mine did not flower for the first 3 years

It's about 20 yrs old. lol. I found it lying in the middle of a road. Some yobs had pulled it out of a display and thrown it there so I rescued it and took it home. It was small then but much bigger now. It's in a big pot.

That might be the problem, i can't say i have seen ones in pots that have flowered, but that might not be accurate.

You're probably correct...that Phorbium will not bloom well in a pot. Some of the dwarf may though. This plant is very commonly grown here in the landscape because of its drought tolerance. The variegated forms with pink strikes are especially popular.

I have a lovely pink one that hasnt lost any off its colour its the same age as the normal one but nowhere near as big.

Usually, Phormium tenax - the pink stripped varietes grow smaller...only to about 6 feet / 2 meters tall...the other varieties can grown to 8 feet / 2.5 meters or taller.

I forgot to mention the heights above are only when plants are grown in the ground...which that's the only way they grow here.
