Lori:

We do have some big bumble bees...the largest ones are black. Last year I took a photo of what I think was a bumble bee...however, it looked like a flying hamster (not as big as a hamster though)...it was big and looked like it had hair like a hamster...never saw anything like it before. I'll post the best photo I can find.

Wow! Please do, D1! I know that there are insects which look like small hummingbirds...I think Diohio has pics of it on here...can't remember the name of it at this second..will have a look... Yikes..I'd love to see those flying hamsters!!

Lori:

Do you have hummingbird months? They are the neatest looking months...they look like a flying hummingbird. Last year there were thousands around...first time I've ever seen so many.

I'll post the photo of the so called bumble bee today.

Yes it was the hummingbird moth that I was trying to think of...lol. I actually saw one in northern Ontario (above the 50th parallel latitude) I had never seen one before and thought I was dreaming!! lol....

Lori:

I think I've read that hummingbird moths are native to most of North America. I see them in Summer when it's warm at night.

I thought that it was a very hairy hummingbird ~ probably a youngster...then saw it's curled proboscis and realized there really was something different about this creature...

Lori:

They are very pretty moths. During the Summer when I leave the front and back porch lights on at night...there's several on the walls.

We often see the large luna moths...

Lori:

I like the Luna moths...however, I've never seen one here.

In Hawaii there are many all year.
