I pruned mine a couple of weeks ago and it now has new reddish-coloured shoots coming through...

I just pruned off back to a joint here and there, where I thought it improved the shape.
Also make sure the soil is sufficiently acid... you can buy products which contain iron, which you can add to rain water and then water the shrub. Don't water with tap water...
The new shoots came through very quickly.

.... I've just looked in my shed.. white plastic bottle ~ B&Q Rhododendron and Azalea food for acid loving plants...

I hope this helps. The new shoots grew through remarkably fast.
You could maybe also add a little bit of ericaceous compost around the top of the pot and then put some pretty stones on top of that to help retain moisture during the summer.... :o)

If you put the cuttings in a separate pot of acid compost in the shade, and water with rain water, you can sometimes make new baby plants. I've done this... :o)

Your Forest Flame might also appreciate not being in full sun...
... try putting the container in a reasonably shady area..:o)
