Big Birds Room

My room for my bigger birds

I bet the parrot chatter is amazing. Lol. :o)

How did you guess! When I did the room I fixed very thick polystyrene to all the walls to reduce the noise for my neighbours, they say they can hardly hear them unless the windows are open. People always look up as they pass by and people have got to know about them. The little room with the Cockatiels and Budgies twitters the most, I like the sound. I'm called the 'Bird Lady' and everyone bring anything injured to me!

Good to know that polystyrene is so efficient in keeping noise in or out... :o)
I guess you get wild birds brought to you also ... fledglings etc. ?

Yes, I often dread that as they are sometimes too far gone for me to save. I try, but I have never had great success with them. There is nothing like a proper Mom feeding you is there. I get upset when they die, I also get upset when they come very badly injured and I have to put them to sleep. I'm useless really. I should be used to it by now,. I had a lovely baby Hedgehog brought to me, I hand fed him/her until he could eat cat food. Made a good strong box, lined it so that it was cold proof and weathered him in hibernation in there. When he reached 5lbs in weight, I let him go. If I called him at night, he would come running, he was anybody's for a chocolate malted milk biscuit LOL, still have a photo of him somewhere.

Your love of wildlife and creatures in general shines out.It is so good that you are dedicated to helping them to recuperate and recover from abuse and neglect. Some people should never be allowed to keep pets.

Oh how I agree with you B. I just try not to think about the abuse so many go through that we don't know about and try to help where I can. Always have. I guess I will always do it too, until I am no longer fit enough to. Wish I was younger and had more time left LOL

A friend brought a rabbit to us 11 years ago...rescued from some kids who had set fire to her fur.She was understandably very nervous around people for ages, but recovered well. She is still with us...albeit frail now.we grate her carrot every day and mash up her food. And she still enjoys a stroll around the garden, though often tries to go fast and falls over !Her appetite is great, and it will be when she goes off her food entirely, that we will know.

Of course you will always look after them...it is in your blood !

Oh bless you, why are people so cruel She is very old for a Rabbit isn't she, because she is looked after so well. I know that I have to let Big Poll go now, she hasn't had anything to drink for 3 days and not eaten anything at all hardly, she is over 50 and has totally worn out. It is going to be so very hard.

We had to make that decision for all four of our rescue dogs between 2000 and 2006.All succumbed to cancer, but all lived to between 12 and 18 years.

Yes it is hard but the way we look at it is that we are there for them when they are alive and we are going to be there for them when they go.All went being cuddled, and the last thing they heard was whispers of love. Each one had a certain look in their eyes which was saying "Had enough ".You do know that look when you see it. Be brave, and know that you are helping easing her into that big sleep...............Thinking of you.

Thank you so much, I think those of us who love animals, go through it time and time again and it never gets easier does it? So many times, I say never again, but I think animals lovers must have huge hearts as somehow they expand to take in yet another.

Given up saying never again !

So have I now, said it so many times and still go through it, as no doubt you will too.

Oh I do San, they are my life. I have done for 15 years or more now, I can't take anymore now that I am retired, I do not have the life span to take on any other long-lived birds, plus the cost of them all, but I feel that somewhere along the way I am doing something that matters, hope that doesn't sound strange, they are my life no:o)
