The first Dragonfly of the year. Not the usual large one with the big head.More dainty and seems to hold still for longer. We have no pond, so must be from the River Rom

what's the flower it's feeding on? *s* the books give lists of plants that are friendly to bees, butterflies and birds, but not dragonflies!

That is Verbena Bonariensis Fran. I would think it is just be feeding to get energy to hunt. This plant is a sweetly scented nectar plant. Dragon flies are the hunter killers of the insect world. They kill under water in their aquatic form and dart after insects when they get wings. I have only seen 1 in the garden this year. A drought in the river at a crucial time stopped them in their tracks.

thanks for the info. something else to add to my plant "want!" list - may not get dragonflies, but other nectar-feeders might turn up.
