We've built a shed for a dozen chickens that we have bought from the market at Les Herolles. The young chickens are settling in nicely.

Yes - the chickens spend a lot of time underneath - sheltering from our scorching sun!

Les Herolles market, south of the Creuse river in central France, is the largest open-air market in France. It has a large livestock section where you can buy any animal except cattle - there are lots of poultry, horses, donkeys, sheep etc, and there are hundreds of stalls selling local produce, wine, clothing, garden equipment, tractors.... - everything! It is held every month on the 29th, and it's a must for a visit if you're in the area.
Incidentally, we've been lucky here, as our next-door-but-one neighbour is a carpenter who gives us as much bedding (wood shavings) as we like for the chicken house - all free!
Everyone here has a vegetable plot and some livestock (chickens, ducks, sheep, goats...) in the garden - and I mean EVERYONE. Self-sufficiency is very common, and neighbours share what excess produce they have. What a wonderful way of life!

Five star accommodation. :o)
Good idea to have this shed well-raised off the ground.
