Is it a self portrait ?

It is Terratoonie. Although I don't quite know in which context you mean avatar, I painted it in oils when I was in my late thirties. Sorry I can't make it appear any bigger for you to see. Nevertheless, I do have some of my paintings in a slide show on 'vimeo.com', under the title of My Paintings and Drawings, which is set to the music of Debussy.

That's interesting. By the word "avatar", I just mean the pic that each member chooses to use above their GoY name. i.e. mine is my old Welsh Terrier pushing the toy wheelbarrow. Sometimes on GoY these little thumbnail photos are called buddy icons.

You could maybe upload your avatar oil painting as a photo in a blog with a few more photos of your paintings? That would be interesting. Have you painted some flowers or trees ? You could include those..

It's okay Terratoonie, I looked the word avatar up because I had never come across it before. It says in my dictionary, 1. Hinduism... the descent of a deity or released soul to earth in a bodily form. 2. incarnation; manifestation. 3. A manifestation or phase.

Sorry to be so picky but I suppose on reflection a portrait is a manifestation of the person who sits for it, in essence. Indeed, more so in the context of a painting because the artist is trying to capture something of the person's spirit or soul. Just as your old Welsh terrier pushing the wheelbarrow captures something that is close to you in the platonic sense. Your dog is your buddy... a buddy icon. How clever... yes I see now.

actually is says "change your your buddy icon/avatar" Lol.
