Harlequin Ladybird pupa

Harlequin Ladybird pupa

Is it - or isn't it? I've sent this off to the Harlequin Ladybird survey for confirmation. I found it on a philadelphus which was about to be lightly pruned but had a more severe chop after seeing this!

Good photo! Not such a good subject to find in your garden though!

No, for ages afterwards everytime I saw a ladybird I had to look to see if it was one of these beasties...haven't seen anymore since as they all seem to be on the philadelphus prunings which I soon got rid of. Coicindentally, there seem to be alot in my garden just lately and I heard on the news over the weekend that North Norfolk are having a mini invasion of them!

I get confused which ones are which and frightened to squash them in case I squash a native species!
