It's filling out now, and many of the plants are in flower, with some on their way.

Thanks, all - I looked at a photo of the lawn before I made this bed - and it looks so BARE!!! It was definitely the right thing to do and it pleases me whenever I look at it! :-)
Ian - this is what inspired you to make your border, so that's your answer to Carol! LOL.

yes it was lovely curves spritz, sometimes a lawn can look very bare cant it, looks lovely

We have a lot of lawn - and it was a good project, to create a bed from the beginning. I haven't really been able to do that before.

well dont get carried away or you wont have a lawn left lol, just kidding :o)

Don't tempt me! I'd do it with this area of lawn! I'd love to! Lots of island beds would look wonderful....
Don't forget that with such a big garden, we have a HUGE area the other side of the stream, mostly lawn. I think husband would not be happy, though, as he'd say I was making too much work for myself. :-( Probably right.

yes he is right spritz, you have such alot of garden and so much to do now, and sorry to say it gets harder as we get older, the trouble is as gardeners we finish one thing and always want more lol, never enough

My argument is always that a well designed and densly planted bed requires less maintenance than a lawn ;-) Don't know if it's right, but I've got the patter down to a fine art now lol

I agree, Sid - I've visited a garden where they have island beds, each colour-themed, and it's oh, so tempting to do here. I have a vivid imagination and can just visualise them. :-D
I don't think husband would be happy, though - he likes the wider view across the lawn to the top border and so on. Henry wouldn't be pleased, either, he likes playing there!

Thank you. I got a new Geranium this afternoon at an open garden - oh yes, yet another for my collection! It's the perfect colour to go in here. :-)

It looks stunning Barbara :~))

Thanks, Ian! I had a look at the plants in there when I was looking for where to plant the geranium, and a lot of the little plants I put in have grown SUCH a lot!
12 Jul, 2009
Now I wonder why that is? Lol. nothing to do with the way you care for them I suppose? :~))
12 Jul, 2009
I've been chatting to them, Ian! lol.

I just cannot believe this is a new bed, amazing!!!
12 Jul, 2009
...only because it had just been cut, I'm afraid. It's full of clover and so on.
I'm glad you like the new bed, M!! :-)

Clover's green, isn't it? I let mine flower - the bees love it.

What is it with men and lawns?!
13 Jul, 2009
Yes, the clover does flower when 'him indoors' hasn't cut the lawns (so called) for a while, and the bees do buzz happily!
We just have too big an area of 'lawn' to weed 'n' feed. It doesn't really bother either of us NOT to have green sward! lol.
