Yours looks very different from our Ancanthus......

I think it's a Spinosus but not really sure. The foliage reverts to dark green in the summer.

You must have a big garden Wagger, to let this in there ;-)

I battled with one for the best part of three years, it'd been planted (by previous houseowner) in a ridiculous place and it had to go.
This picture brings back very strong emotions ;-)

This one doesn't seem to spread too far, Louise, it's been here for at least ten years and I only dig out a few small pieces. Perhaps it's a weaker plant being this colour.
