It's massive just looked it up is it good for any diseases like lemons for cancer

Not sure about the medicinal value. It can be very messy to cut the Jackfruit. The fruit has a horrible white latex in it. It can stain a knife if one doesn't put oil on it.

Look at the size of one on goigle I think you would need a machette to cut one open thanks for ecplaining how messy they are.

I have cut a large fruit in the past. You need a huge knife with oil on it. It's very difficult to cut this fruit and it's extremely messy with the horrible white latex. It can stain everything. This is why people use newspaper when cutting it.
I would like to add: if you ever find one for sale there...the fruit is very expensive.

I am suprised they have nt found a way of using the latex for some thing else even if its clothes wires etc . Sounds as though an axe would be more appropriate wearing overalls lol .
Thanks for that Andy I have saved it to my favourutes so to remember its name. I doubt I would find one here may be off the net

There may be uses for the latex. I haven't read about it, though.
Jackfruit is usually sold at Asian markets here in San Diego. Jackfruit can only be a crop in tropical climates. Jackfruit trees do produce fruit here; however, it's not reliable fruiting tree here.

So it Asian from India or China may be more India for weather conditions. Shame it's not reliable there . I thought if they can breed a sea creature to make electric cables this latex must be of some use for some thing in stead of wasting it.

Penny,
You can read about the Jackfruit latex on the internet.
Yes, Jackfruit cannot be reliable fruit crop outside the tropics. It would be way to high-maintenance in a subtropical climate. Even though San Diego has such a wonderful subtropical climate, it's still not hot and humid consistently enough for it to be reliable. Jackfruit can only be grown reliably as a crop where temps stay above 60ºF (16ºC) at night and daytime highs should be always be above 78ºF (26ºC) throughout the year.

Thank you Andy I shall take a look on Google.

Yes I did read that it originated from the Western Ghats India which I thought India going by their heat and weather.

Yes, they have real heat and humidity. LOL! The climate here doesn't compare to the extreme heat and humidity of India.

Yes my dad was there in ww2 in the raf he had to take salt drinks so must be cooler where you are . I ve always wanted to go to India and Africa but glad I never have I could nt stand that kind of heat .

I planted some I grew from seeds. I had nothing else to do with them. I might cover them in winter with something clear, with venting.
I have seen them on YouTube fruiting in Los Angeles. I think he said they were only 5 years old. Not sure. The fruit were not huge- but still big enough.
I planted three..two look good, one went too dry not sure if its going to pull through. I should post photos. I started them like a year and a half ago. Time flies.

They do grow fast from seed. Seedlings are extremely cold-sensitive! They won't tolerate any coolness at all!

Penny,
The climate in much of India is definitely much, much hotter and humid. I hear it's even hotter than South Florida, which is extremely oppressive.
5 Aug, 2017
I can well imagine it is Andy as my dad said it was about 120F in the shade over there. Not sure what that would be in centigrade .

That's how hot the desert in San Diego's east county reaches. The deserts of California and Arizona are some of the hottest in the world. Death Valley is the hottest spot on earth.
6 Aug, 2017
I bet you are glad you dont live in these areas yes I recall you mentioning death Valley makes you wonder how any thing can service there.
You would think they would have green houses there to grow food to feed the population.
6 Aug, 2017
Many areas of the low deserts of California grow much of the winter crops for the U.S., that's along with San Diego County and parts of Florida and Arizona.
7 Aug, 2017
I bet it looks like Spain then on Google maps a sea of green houses.
7 Aug, 2017
The Imperial Valley is a sea of green in the extremely hot desert. Much of the produce in the U.S. is grown there in winter.
9 Aug, 2017
Is it gm food they grow there.
9 Aug, 2017
No, I don't think so.
11 Aug, 2017
Thats great then I always try to buy organic if I was able I would have an allotment to grow all my own like I use to.
11 Aug, 2017
Actually, GMO crops may be grown there. I actually don't know. I will have to find out.
16 Aug, 2017
On your labels by the bar code on your fresh food there is a 4 did get number if that has a 9 making 5 numbers at the beginning it's organic if it's begins with a number 4 or 8 it's not organic.
