thanks folks but that was last spring, I am updating my plant list and filling in the gaps.

Doesnt it just make you LONG for spring seeing all that fresh greenery? Im desperate for some drying weather even if cold..spotted some fungus growth on couple plants, everything so sodden.

yes it does Tetrarch, just seeing the brown earth and sodden growth when the snow thaws is wonderful, I hate not being to see the earth and you cannot check for signs of bulb activity when there is snow. I dispared when the green house was covered in snow for weeks, i just kept pulling it off and it kept coming, it was so dark in there and my little plants were struggling to live. Also keeping the birds fed and watered was so hard, I guess I do not like snow!!

Im a fan of snow visually, but would prefer a very short hard winter (matter of days) to kill off the bugs. A bit "here today gone tomorrow" mentality!
Feeding the birds was a bit of a trial here, we do it big time, or at least, my OH does, but he slipped and had a bad fall so I took a turn..cursing blue murder cos he 9" taller than me and I had a job reaching down the feeders!
Reminds me forceably of supermarket top shelves!!!

Yes I am glad I shop now on the internet, I am five foot and my hubby is six foot one. I agree about the snow, it is good for killing off diseases ect. The weather we are currently enjoying is fine as long as it does not get colder for long spells. never mind i have started sowing seeds, that always cheers me up.

Don't know what is is about me and seeds..I buy a packet, then dither and dither about sowing them until its too late..but my NY resolution is "be brave"!!
Tomorrow they promise is a sunny day, so Im going to bushwack my OH to dig up my oriental poppies and take some root cuttings, which Carol Klein assures us is dead easy to do. We shall see....
