My 5 1/2 year old Maradol papaya plant is growing and flowering better now that it's receiving more water. Photo taken Nov. 1, 2009.

Pitta:
It is a commonly grown Mexican variety or hybrid. This papaya variety can grow huge papayas -- to more than 2 feet long. However, my longest papaya was just slighly less than 2 feet long when I had a little papaya forest in my backyard a few years ago.

Sandra:
Thanks!
The leaves are small this year...they usually grow
much larger. This plant was under watered this
year because of the drought.

Ok,Andy- what was the best you got out of Papaya in the bay area?..I got them to 16" before they rotted in December. Maridols.

The only papaya I could ever grow in the Bay Area was Babaco Papaya. I know mountain papaya does well there, also.
