Carica papaya 'Maradol'

I grow so many papayas. I used to have a papaya forest in the back yard. I had so many papayas I didn't know what to do with the fruit. Now, when I get a lot of fruit, I make Tinola (which is green papaya and chicken Filipino stew). It's so good!

I bought today 'Caribbean Red' which I thing is Maradol...is not it?
Do you have to have male and female plants?

'Red Caribbean' is very different from the 'Maradol' papaya. Red Caribbean here is a much more tropical plant. The plants look very different, also. Maradol, which is a Mexican variety is much hardier and grows slower. Maradol fruit is usually much larger and doesn't taste very good when picked too green. One of the biggest advantages for commercial production of 'Red Caribbean' is that it can be picked greener and still develop the sugars, good coloring and excellent taste. Most papayas taste horrible if picked too green even if they are allowed to ripen in a warm spot they taste terrible!

After Mondays heavy rain..the ground around here is still muddy. The Papaya's are still standing.
I have to make it to the Goodwill stores for some sheets to cover the tropicals as best I can on a frosty night. I'm not losing years of growth without a fight.

I found some old 2001 -2003 photos 35 mill of my plants.
I want to take photos of the photos so everybody can see the difference . It even surprised me to see that I still have most. Only bigger now.

It's still damp here from the heavy thunderstorms from a few days ago. It's been in the upper 70's here, though. Things will dry out fast this weekend.

Rain today again. I made it through the summer without any losses.
