Viticella mme Julia Correvon - I keep its roots in deep shade and only the heads in the sun. It has been there for 8-10 years and has only flowered profusely since 2007

Thank-you spindle it was agreat year for clematis.

Not for mine, I have but one bud (one miserable little bud that probably wont flower now) - the earwigs are all fat and happy in my garden. Its so annoying. I'm giving up on clematis :o(((.

I had these clemitis (purple one and this Pink) several years before they really flowered, Wilt the first 2 years and then nothing much till last year. Some clemitis are difficult went out this morniing and the new alpina has shrivelled up all 4 ft of it. Not got a clue!

I suppose I wont give up on my clematis just yet then!!!!!!! Hope your new one recovers OK

Oh please don't Swindle - see Swanky's blog today that will convince you.
9 Sep, 2009
I did see Swanky's blog - gorgeous, and so many buds too. The earwigs are the bother with mine though. I am seriously tempted to spray bugclear round the trellis next year. Also, though I love clematis, I HATE their roots - like holding a handful of snakes - yuk - so wont dig up if I can help it :)

Yes there dooys are creepy
9 Sep, 2009
huh - is dooy the proper word for clematis roots, then?
9 Sep, 2009
I cannot believe I typed that Spindle I meant roots d is below r and y is next to T ? Oh help.
9 Sep, 2009
I must admit that I googled 'dooy', after I asked you, and had a bit of a shock!!.. you've given me a good laugh at myself though :)
9 Sep, 2009
I am still laughing at you googling it. I should have kept quiet? actually the word fits the roots dont you think? At least I know now that next time I need a dooy I will call a plumber

This is the best laugh I've had for ages...dont know which of us is the worst. At one point I was so fascinated by this new gardening term, I was going to ask how you pronounced it - decided to google it instead..... I'm still laughing at myself. You are right though, describes the roots perfectly. I'm never going to be able to look at clematis the same way again...lol..and certainly never, ever dig one up...

Well I too have had such a good laugh tonight which is very good for us.
