Clivia miniata

Clivia miniata (Clivia miniata (Clivia))

I've been looking for this plant for a while. Two weeks ago i ran into it at the flower shop. It's blooming for the first time at my home :-) and i really love the soft orange color of its flowers. Here in Holland people consider it a bit of an old-fashioned indoor plant. But i really don't care. I like it :-)!

Oh, very similar to mine and flowering at same time.Mine's at it's peak now but just about to go over but you've still got a couple of weeks flowering in this one. Lovely!

Sometimes the "old fashioned" stuff can be very pretty! Just wait a few years and they will be popular again! : )

It is a wonderful specimen.... I love orange flowers..
I don't know what the latest fashion is in Holland....? What is the popular plant at the moment? I have an e/m video a friend sent me of the gardens of the Keukenhoff... do you visit it often? Fashions come and go...this is true beauty... it never goes out of style, does it?

You are all right! True beauty is timeless :-)
Orchids are very popular at the moment. You see phalaenopsis and other species everywhere.
Yes, Paul, mine is just beginning to flower now. I'm enjoying every minute of it :-) !
Your Clivia was a "vroege vogel" as people say in Dutch (translates literally as being an early bird) Enjoy!

Ah yes... the Phal's have hit the popular market over here too... you can buy one for about $18. other varieties are more expensive... vandas are $35. + or - Cymbidiums are close to the Phals in price but not as easy to find... I have my eye set for a South American Temperate rainforest orchid...and wouldn't you know it my senior brain has taken this moment to forget it's name!! It is triangular shaped and come in very vivid colours. It's name starts with an M... Masdevallia???.oh well it will come to me in the shower! llol...

No senior moments there, Lori! That is an orchid - I don't blame you for hankering after one!

I like Clivias - I haven't got any, but I have a friend who grows them - I admire hers! Lovely photo...

I don't blame her either. Masdevallias are very special and exotic looking.
I would definitely like to have more orchids, but where do i put them?
My house is full and my windowsill is crowded at the moment LOL.

I think they are indeed supposed to turn orange. You'll have a lot of little plants by next spring, i think!

Is this an outdoor plant in your garden? People are talking about putting it on a window sill in their homes. Can it take low temperatures and snow? It's beautiful.
