Coffea arabica - Coffee Tree

Coffea arabica - Coffee Tree (Coffea arabica (Coffee Tree))

My coffee tree is growing many new leaves now. This tree popped up in 2020, from where my old 8 ft tree used be in the ground (which died in the big drought). Photo taken December 2, 2023.

I've got two small ones of these.
I saw a pot-full of seedlings in a supermarket last summer. They only had the seed leaves but looked interesting so I bought them. I didn't know what they were until someone identified them as Coffe plants.
Unfortunately I forgot about them and they dried out in the summer heat, but I managed to save two of them and they look well now.

Many years ago I had a big plant.

They can't take any real amount of drought. They don't even like to go for more than a few short days without a watering. They do look great and glossy leaved.

Klahanie,

It makes a pretty good indoor plant, as long as it receives a lot of light. It starts off really slow, then speeds up after the second year (it’s been my experience).

I water this plant a lot. In the ground it needs good rains to leach the soil every winter. If we don’t receive enough rain and even with regular watering, coffee trees will have branch die back until they die.

Yes, it’s native to mountains in the tropics where there’s lots of rain all year.
