Sorry guys...trust me with this one, the stream is there.... We give over the stream and top pond to the wildlife and try not to touch that area, so things get a bit wild and wonderful at this time of year.
The black leaf plant's Colocasia Esculenta "Black Magic", edible when cooked (leaves and corm),a thirsty baby so they love it in the stream.

I'm a foliage person at heart (after veggies), flowers for some colour and to attract beneficial insects. Your username suits your planting style well. :-)

Thanks David, Jungle by name...jungle by nature!
I just love all the big leaf plants, they're so dramatic and last so much longer than the flowers. I don't keep things seperate, it all grows in together, flowers, veg, herbs, shrubs...it's (intentionally) a glorious muddle!
Much of my garden is evergreen so it still looks tropical right through the winter....very funky having a jungle in January. 8-)))

Great pic Jen :)
I've just bought a Colocasia "Black Magic", and not sure how to over-winter it. Do you leave yours outside, and do you give it any protection? Will it die down over winter? Mine's in a pot, shall I bring it inside? Sorry...too many questions....
4 Sep, 2009
Ask away Di 8-))) No probs!
If you leave them outside they'll die down for the winter. Two choices...lift them and store in dry (peat type stuff), or bring them in and enjoy them all winter.
I know which I'm doing!

Thanks that has answered my question, I have never seen any of these plants on sale in our GC am I looking in the wrong areas?

Jen, wheres the snow pic?
13 Sep, 2009
DottyDaisy, you can find some in the water plants section and others would be in the greenhouse/conservatory plants (eg orchids etc). There are hundreds of differerent ones and they can have vastly different growing requirements, ask them for Colocasia Esculenta).
I have bought some beautiful ones on ebay, you buy them as tubers and they shoot easily if you start them in the house/conservatory.8o)
