Dogwood

Dogwood (Cornus alba 'Sibirica')

A friend gave me this Cornus alba 'Sibirica'. I read that its height and spread is 2m and I've only got a small garden! So I'm going to trim it down to the ground every spring and hope to keep it small. I've planted Japanese anemones 'Honorine Jobert' in front of the fence. I went round the garden digging up self-seeded foxgloves which I've planted to the right of the dogwood.

By triming it down to the ground you'll get those nice red stems every year :)

This corner has grown much in four short weeks. The peony in front of the dogwood has shot up. The dogwood put on more leaves and little white flower heads which have faded already. The alchemilla mollis doubled in size. My partner referred to this area yesterday as "an overgrown area providing good habitat for frogs". I swiftly corrected that to "an area of lush planting"! Thanks for the tip, Hywel.
