to be honest it is the first time i have grown Cotinus, i have recently bought 2 this one and a yellow one, the reason i bought them is for there stunning leaf colour, particually in autumn. this one 'Royal Purple' should turn this bright red all over before dropping all its leaves, the yellow one 'Golden sprit' is suposed to turn shades of bright orange and pink before dropping all it's leaves, but it has'nt done it this year, the leave just turned crispy and dropped off yellow and cream which was a bit disapointing, i asked a question on this quite recently. as i am hoping that they are ok, the purple one has been in the ground a couple of months so i am hoping it will give a good show in the next few weeks. i only got the yellow one a couple of weeks ago and it has'nt made it into the ground as yet, i have it on good authority that it should be better next year once established, hope so, i really love both of them and have been after them for ages.
