It likes a fairly sunny spot but sheltered Louise. But it gets big - 25 feet by fifteen (I had mine reduced this last winter to keep it within bounds)

How old is it here and was it you that planted it or did you inherit it with the garden ?

I planted it in 2003 and it has made prodigious growth since then

The red C. hookerianum is common but is one is much more subtle and very pretty. I assume it likes acid soil like C. h. It is some fast grower, though.

Yes, acid soil Vincent but a drier and sunnier spot than C.hookerianum. The flowers are smaller too
