Isn't this one of the oldest dr's in socal? A good bloomer too.

I’m not sure how this one blooms. I just discovered this young tree a few weeks ago. It’s only a mile from my house.

There’s many more older and larger D. regia trees than this one in San Diego and southern California. The two big trees at the SD Zoo were planted in 1990. The large one at Fullerton arboretum was planted in 1988.

I think you posted the SD Zoo plants. Tall and looked like Jacaranda. This one here I'm sure i've seen on the palm board as a Delonix that was a good bloomer. I recognize that wall and wrought iron. Not sure about its age. Something about brought from Mexico at the time when they weren't sold in soca.

It’s not this tree on the IPS board. It’s the one on Commercial St. (close to downtown San Diego). It’s bigger and much older than this tree. This tree is on Chamourne St. There’s another one used as a street tree not too far from this one. I can’t believe I’ve never taken a pic of it. It’s about the same size as this posted tree.

This is the tree on Commercial St.:

Great flowers. I grew one for three years here. After the third winter it never woke up. Surprised me since it hadn't been any colder than the previous two winters.

The trees on Commercial and Island streets are only a 3 blocks from each other, and they bloom very well every year.

It’s the wet, not the cold that kills them. My friend who lives pretty close to this posted tree planted a Delonix a few years ago and it died. It was planted with a basin around it and got too wet in winter. He has a nice new larger plant now. He’s going to plant it next year. The best size to plant a Delonix here is 6 - 8 ft tall.
