Poinciana

Poinciana (Delonix regia (Acacia Roja))

There are several large poinciana trees growing on the property. We have two just as you drive in the gate and when they are in bloom, they look spectacular.

Bernieh:

My favorite tree...of course! Such gorgeous Delonix regia flowers!

There are four rather large poincianas on the property although they are not that old judging by their size - as I've grown up with huge old poincianas. While they are annoying when they drop their seed pods and the grass doesn't like growing under them, their spectacular display when in flower makes up for all that! (At least that's what I tell my husband who absolutely loathes these trees because of their mess)

Bernieh:

The flowers definitely outweigh the mess...just like Jacaranda trees.

I love these trees, hence my screen name and photo. I'm from Hawaii originally and there's many large old trees there.

Here in Southern California Delonix regia - Royal Poinciana is becoming very popular. I'm growing seedlings for sale and will donate some to San Diego State University if they want them. They do best when planted out when they're at least 3 feet / 1 meter tall...which takes about one summer. As you probably know they are extremely fast growing trees.

They are pretty! I have seen them in Thailand, but never knew the name.
Thank you.

This is one of my favourite trees, another is the Jacaranda. You can obviously grow similar things as in Tenerife. I hope I can get them to grow in Spain in the future.

My favourite is definitely the jacaranda, Gwen. Poincianas should grow there very well - hope you get a few growing.

beautiful, wish I could find some seed in this plant. I think this is what they called Fire Tree,it blooms in summer.

Oh if only we were allowed to send seeds outside the country here ... I have so many seeds from the three large Poincianas on my property! There's also lots and lots of little saplings that pop up all over the property ... my husband regularly mows them down when he mows the grass.

If only... thanks anyway Bernieh I am still happy to see them in your photos.
