Dombeya wallichii - Tropical Hydrangea

This is not a Hydrangea. My tropical hydrangea has a flower ball. This is the first time I've ever seen a flower on this tree in summer. Its normal bloom season starts the beginning of January. Photo taken June 22, 2015.

Yes, you're correct it's in the Malvaceae family.
The flower spikes tend to be much larger; however, it's never bloomed in summer before...

Looks more like a member of the Malvaceae family than a Hydrangea to me. That's why I hate common names.
