Dawn, this is a tuber, which flowered last year, the smaller daughter ones are just emerging, a lot shorter but their leaves are unfurling.

No, Dawn, it only pongs for a couple of days when the purple flower matures in late summer enticing flies to pollinate it.
By the way, the decaying leaf is of the Lamium.
