This is one of many very large Australian Banyan trees in the section of Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. Photo taken July 13, 2010.

Yes this tree can spread almost 200 feet/ 61 meters in time. The circumference is huge also...it can cover more than an acre.
The F. macrophylla in front of the Natural History Museum has a spread 150 feet/ 47 meters and is 85 feet/ 26 meters tall. This year is its 100th birthday.
