Ficus religiosa - Bodhi Tree, Sacred Fig

There's many Sacred Figs in Balboa Park, San Diego...ranging from old large to the young ones like the one posted. This is the tree in which Siddhārtha Gautama Buddha found enlightenment. Also, the oldest documented tree known in the world is the Ficus religiosa in Sri Lanka. It's was planted in 288BC. Supposedly, many of the large Ficus species are though to live 2,000 - 4,000 years, however, documentation would be very difficult to prove for that many years. Photo taken Sept. 29, 2010.
