Clump forming herbaceous perennial with arching stems, growing up to three feet in semi shade. Protect early growth from slugs and snails

No, this one likes a woodland soil and can take lime in its stride. Mine is planted right beside a path so will have got its roots into the mortar as well as the soil

I suspect that this plant was growing up the mountains in Italy! I'll write a blog and include my photo when I've got time - but it looks like it to me.

Spritz - you could well be right. The RHS book says it's a native of mountains of central and southern Europe, plus Turkey
