Silk Oaks have been blooming for a couple of months now...these trees in Balboa Park, San Diego, CA. are more than 100 feet/ 32 meters tall. Photo taken June 3, 2010.

These trees are lucky...most of the time the tops get blown off during strong winds. It's a very brittle tree.
I had one at my other house...I know exactly what you talking about...ants, bees, crows and spiders loves this tree. It also constantly drops messy leaves.
Along the freeways and parks are the perfect spot for this tree. : > )
