Three weeks later than normal but the witch hazel is just coming into flower at last

I love this plant.
Do you think the cold spell we had is the cause of the lateness ?

Spring is on its way, so nice to see these buds even if they are abit late.

Louise - it is definitely the weather that has delayed the flowers this year. It is interesting to note that some plants go by temperature and some by day length - you can get some very strange flowering companions if we get a long, cold spring

Yes, everything is so late. I have had not a single flower on my Prunus Subhirtella autumnalis, the Cornus Mas buds are still very tiny, the viburnum tinus has it's buds tightly shut, the camellia is not showing any signs of colour on it's buds....but there is one little hellebore showing a flower and even though it feels like spring is never going to come...it always does doesn't it....eventually!

Love these, we used to visit a garden that held the national collection, fascinating plants, if only we had another 40ft of garden?

I've tried twice to grow one, in a pot at first but both of them died after flowering so I lost heart. I saw one just last week in a garden in Dundee and it was about 10 feet tall!! What a sight. You could only see it because the house wall had been taken down for rebuilding. The house is Victorian so the tree has probably been there a long long time!
