For some reason, my witch hazel didn't discard its leaves last autumn. But it hasn't stopped it flowering now.

is this a youngster, Andrew? I have beech trees (Fagus) which do not lose their leaves until spring when the new buds emerge. The younger the tree, and the lower branches on mature trees hold onto their leaves in this manner. "Marcescence", perhaps?

Lori - no, it's 20 years old. The only difference is I cut out one badly placed branch last year (after flowering had finished). Perhaps that has caused it.
