Thanks Hywel, I think the species colour is usually a grey/blue, and I think the smelly name is unjust!

I don't know, I've never tried to smell them ... but I did wonder why they were called that ...

I believe the leaves of the species when crushed have an unpleasant smell to some people. They are also called roast beef plants sometimes. I like the smell of beef roasting, how about you?

I remember roast beef. My mother always had it on Sundays. It was the only thing my father would eat.
I am not keen on red meat myself. I only eat chicken and fish, and the very occasional pastie.
My mother would always ask me to stir the gravy when I was little. She made it in the pan the beef had been roasting in. She always said 'Don't let it go lumpy !' lol
Yes it did smell nice :)
