Goodness that's an eyeful. Love the colours in the standards. Your season just started? Here in the South of UK mine have finished and I have some large pods on crosses I made earlier.

Yes the season starts later here in Nova Scotia. The intermediate one bloom around mid June and the tall ones to follow next and into July . The Siberian irises also are forming bids now. The last ones are the Japanese irises . I read in your posts that you are saving seeds and growing new plants from them. You are a very organized and patient iris lover for sure . I have always cut the seed pods off the plants as soon as the flowers are finished . Is this the right thing to do if I am not saving seeds?

Yes Nancy , cut off the pods if you don't want the seed, they only sap the energy. I would cut the pod stalk 1/2 way down below the papery bit, here it just collects black fly and water.
