Lonicera hildebrandiana - Tropical Giant Burmese Honeysuckle

Lonicera hildebrandiana - Tropical Giant Burmese Honeysuckle (Lonicera hildebrandiana)

The Tropical Giant Burmese Honeysuckle can grow to a massive size with a huge trunk in San Diego, CA. It's commonly used along cyclone fences, however, the trunk in time can bend the cyclone fence. This big vine or shrubby vine blooms with very sweetly-scented flowers most of the year here. Photo taken May 23, 2011 in Ocean Beach, San Diego, CA.

It does look good grown as a shrub.

Meanie:

I like it grown as a shrub, also. It just needs to be cut back a lot.

You see hundreds of these growing along ugly cyclone fences in parking lot areas in downtown San Diego.

If it vines that big, having one of these in the right climate would be like a hand grenade with the pin pulled - as long as you have a firm grip on it all is well, but let go and all hell breaks loose!!

That's about it! It looks good in a big area because it blooms most of the year.

I would dearly like to swap some of my rare tropicals for a rooted clipping of this, or seeds...please contact me at tropicalgardener@gmail.com Thanks Frank :)
