My mango tree seedling. It grow from a seed to 10" tall within one week. That's amazing! Photo taken Sept. 3, 2016.

Some do that...most don't. That's -from my limited experience- a sign of a very vigorous future tree.

I planted the two seeds from that monster Kent fruits I bought. They were delicious- the inside melted like butter.
Were would I grow a tree that can handle 2 pound fruit?

I think that means it's going to vigorous tree. I've seen some really slow and very vigorous mango trees here.

I though Kent was a smaller fruit. I know Keitt is a big variety which is grown in the Coachella Valley. They're the largest mango groves grown in the continental U.S. (yes, even bigger acreage than is grown is Florida). The fruit is of extremely high quality, also. I love those mangoes. They should becoming available very soon.

I posted on one of the garden web forums..they were leaning to Kent after also noting it could be Keitt.
They were so huge and had that melty thing,I figure they might be from the Mexican tropics..so a tree like Kent can give those 2 pounders.

Yes, Kent is a smaller variety. Keitt has the really large mango fruit. I love Keitt Mangoes!

Usually, Trader Joe's sell the Coachella Valley California mangoes. They're my favorite mangoes in the world. They don't have to treated because they're grown here in California. Most mangoes have to go through some kind of treatment to come into the U.S. This ruins the fruit most of the time. The hot water bath cooks them and they taste like rubber.

I love the Keitt mangoes from the Coachella Valley. They're some of the best-grown mangoes in the world. There's an article about all the mango connoisseurs that came to the Coachella Valley (from mango-producing countries) and tasted the mangoes before the mango orchards went into commercial production. The praises were very high. This is why the Coachella Valley mango orchards are the biggest in the U.S.

Yes, I think so. It's usually large and fiberless, with superb sweet taste! Kent is a much smaller mango and I don't think it's a very common commercial mango before it doesn't store well.

I'm pretty sure it is a Keitt variety, which will be a chance seedling. Because Keitt is a grafted variety.

It will be. I dont get that whole graft thing for California needs. Mangoes have been crossed for so long that with seedlings I bet any will be just as good if not better than what you ate.

Most likely you're correct. All varieties are developed from chance seedlings.

I had another Keitt mango that was in the refrigerator and was starting to grow in the fruit. I can't believe how viable these seeds are.
